What we are going to do.....
DIP- Keep a digital inspiration portfolio on your desktop. This is where you can put all inspiration images, ideas, new vocab you find for both your theory and your prac work. Start with the photos you are interested in using and your found examples of composition
week 1 - week 4
Choose a photograph taken by you to construct an interesting composition on paper. Divide the work into four and over the course of four week,s trial each of the four applications of paint to your divided composition. You will want to consider which areas of the composition suit the different application of paint? What you want to communicate through this work? What does the medium already communicate when applied in such a way?
week 4 - week 8
Write a reflection on the four applications of paint in your journal. Explain how you enjoyed working with each of the media and which of the media do you think communicates your idea best? Why? Justify your choice of one of the trialed techniques to apply to your finished work.
in-class theory task
Research an artist that uses one of the four painting techniques (highlighted in class) and make a digital poster that provides insight into the artist's cultural context and highlights two to three artworks that demonstrate the use of the specific technique.
starting questions
factual: What does Truth to Materials mean? What are the rules associated with the composition of a painting? What are the effects of the four painting techniques? What are the processes of each of these applications of paint?
conceptual: How does the choice of medium impact the reading of the work? How do the painting applications affect the message of the work?
